performance with bodycast of jelly
Artspace Flipside, Eindhoven (2008)
# 4 of a series of performances I made with life-size jelly copies of my own body. Taking the copy out of the mould almost felt like being reborn but the relationship with my jelly self was much more confronting than I had anticipated. Chosen for its transparency and bright colour, jelly proved to be quite a challenging material: it is flexible, sticky and extremely heavy. Above all: my edible self was unable to stand on her own two feet. Sweet as she may be, my mirror image nearly broke my back. Yet, as the struggle left its marks on the jelly bodies, I discovered a gentle, caring side to myself that transcends the contradictory feelings of love and hate.
